Vote to Sew

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

I dont know about you but i missed not sewing with Sew IT…did you miss it to?

I hope you did, and if you didnt well you should have LOL… just kidding

Every other week i search for tutorials to sew with Sew It, with hopes that YOU will want to sew them too.  However, i find that sometimes my choice of tutorials doesnt appeal to all of you (which is natural – you can please everyone although i try to). So me being me i have decided that from now on you will get to VOTE for what YOU want to SEW.

This being my blog and Sew It being my baby I dont mind passing on the needle and thread to you LOL – hope that makes sense.

How does this work?

I will pick three sewing projects ( i still get to pick LOL) and you vote for the  ONE  you would like to sew. The tutorial with the most votes wins and the runner up (ie second place) will be entered in the next poll with 2 new tutorials. The tutorial with the least amount of votes (well i get that you dont want to sew it that so no point in featuring it). All clear?

Ideally this should be done at the beginning of the every Sew it week (so i should have posted this Sat/Sun) and leave it up for 2 days but this is life and things dont always go as planned, right? So for this week  please forgive me but i can only allow one day to cast your votes  as tomorrow is wednesday *Yikes*

Last month i asked you for ideas which helped (thanks Um Omer and Nima) for your suggestions :)

So for this week i have chosen

Laptop sleeve/cover by Elizabeth for Sew Mama Sew

Baby Booties by Stardust shoes for MMF

Wonky Pink Patchwork Pillow by Vanessa @ Live, Laugh and Sew

Now that you have seen the tutorials VOTE for your favorite!

My vote goes for the laptop sleeve althought i must admit that the baby booties are so tempting but my laptop needs a cover!

Spread the word to your crafty friends by tweeting this, put it up on your FB page, to reach as many as you can so they can join in Sewing FUN!

Happy Voting, and may the best tutorial win!!!!!

Sew It on a short break

Monday, January 25th, 2010

I have decided to take a short break from Sew It (NOT blogging). I know this is not the best time  especially that so many of you are enjoying it which i am glad to hear.

But i feel that i need to dot his now as i have to so many orders that are pending and i need to work on them. I have kept them waiting long enough and need to get them finished …..yesterday,  yup thats how soon.

I plan to start Sew it on Wednesday the 10 of February 2009

I have gotten great feedback the last couple of days from the Sew it member on the group on facebook.

Oh and that reminds me about the towel wrap i made for sew it last week, apparently i didnt sew it alone Caryl Anne of Carylscreations on etsy made these

and

Arent they cute? i love the touch of embroidery

I end this post with a promise to be back on with Sew it  on the 10th of February probably before that with a poll so you can choose by voting what to sew :)

Until then take care and remember take one stitch at a time..

My towel head wrap for Sew IT

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

I had a feeling that none of you would take part which is why i didnt post mine until today. Its a shame that none of you managed to take part in Sew it this week. Because it was really a quick project and makes good use of old towels you might have lying around.

It took me about 30 mins if not less to make and Dania was in the sewingroom with me.

This is my towel

Headwrap for Sew it

I used an old towel which has seen better days..

I was not planning on modelling it but Dania gladly stood still for a shot

Dania Modelling towel wrap

as soon as this pic was taken she pulled it off LOL

I look forward to trying it today after my shower… defintely will be making more of these as gifts i am sure my mum and my niece R would love one.

Thanks for stopping by and let me know what you would like to sew next, cause it really isnt fun sewing this alone.

Come to think of it shall i put up a poll of three possible sewing projects and you get to vote what to sew next? what do you think?

Lets Sew a towel head wrap

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

Sew IT

I am very excited about Sew it this week because this is something i REALLY need.

We will be making a towel head wrap..aha you got that right?

towel-wrap-8

I remember seeing this being advertised a long time back. A towel wrap just for your hair it will keep your hair in place while you get ready, sounds like something you need? i defintely need me one of those but now i can MAKE my own and so can you!

As soon as i saw this tutorial on Skip to my lou i had a feeling that you would enjoy making it .

I hate that my towel somehow manages to get undone and that my head is so heavy from the towel. I have shoulder length hair and the small towels are too small and the big towel are too BIG LOL so this is perfect.

Thanks for sewing this with me and why not invite your friends to join in the fun of sewing with Sew it?!

Remember once you’ve completed the tutorial:
  • Take a picture of your finished project

If you have a blog

  • Link the Sew IT button on your blog side bar so visitors know that you are in a sew a long and might want to join the fun :)
  • blog about it on your blog and comment on THIS post so i know you are done.
  • If u dont have a blog send me the picture via email to sewchicandunique [at] gmail [dot] com before Tuesday.

I will feature all finished projects and link to your blog on feature it Wednesday which is when we show off our sewing skills.

Make a Drawstring Bag with Sew It

Sew IT

I was not really sure if you wanted to sew it this week as i am sure most of you will be busy celebrating the new year. However i thought i little sewing project wont harm and i promise its an easy one where you can make use for your fabric scarps.

Drawstring bags are great because you could use them for gift giving, organising and they are great to have when you travel. You can make them in various sizes too, so one can really have fun with them!

They are super easy and quick to make especially with this tutorial i found from Happy Things

Drawstring bag

I hope you will be able to join us in sewing this drawstring bag.

I am happy to say that some of the partcipants are getting really good in sewing and might feel that the above drawstring bag is fairly easy and would like a bit of a challanege how bout making  this?

Origami Pocket Pouch

Please note: You dont have to make both of them just choose one of the two :) but if you feel like making them both go for it!

Lets feature the market skirt

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009

Its that time of the week to feature what we made with Sew it this past week.

I am really glad i choose this skirt tutorial, it was my first attempt at making one and i cant believe how easy it was! For some reason i just feel making clothes is very complicated which is why i tend to stick to bags and other accessories!

Only 3 of us made the skirt here is Cynde’s version from Hipchic Designs

Cynde Skirt for Sew it

I love the floral fabric she used and the way she added the ric rac embelishment, you can read more on her blog

Crystal  made this skirt for her daughter

Cyrstal

love the flower on the skirt so darn cute!

I blogged about mine yesterday here

Mayya's Market sirt for Sew It

I have put the elastic and it’s a little big for Dania however, i was about to take her picture when i realised that my camera had run out of battery! So will add it later

I would like to thank Cynde and  Crystal for taking part in sewing this with me and would also like to thank Dana who wrote a GREAT tutorial!

I think its time i thought of something to sew for boys, fancy  trying anything from here? or if you have any other suggestions for us to sew please let me know, I love hearing from you :)

Thanks for stopping by!

Market Skirt for Sew It

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009

This week for Sew it we are making the market skirt

I LOVE the skirt its soo cute and super easy to make. This one is for Dania i have not taken a picture of her modelling it as i dont have any elastic to hold the skirt up. I will be heading out to buy some and promise to add pics of her wearing it once i am done :)

Mayya's Market sirt for Sew It

Dana’s tutorial is very well explained i had no trouble following her clear instructions and she photograped every step which really helped. I didnt add the pockets because i just felt it would have covered the pretty flower fabric.

What I Learned

It took me 2 hours to make approx i  would have finished it earlier but whilst adjusting the gathers my threads came loose as i didnt leave enough thread at the beginning or the end. So remember to pull auite a bit of thread before you start the gathers and at the end so that when you come to pull and adjust your gathers they wont become undone!

I cant wait to try it on Dania hope it fits her and as promised will add pics with her wearing it.

Dont forget to check back on Wednesday to check out what the other ladies made :)

 Thanks for stopping by
