Celebrate the Boy with Rae and Dana

Rae of Made by Rae and Dana of MADE joined forces during the month of Feburary to celebrate the boy.

The boys in our lives often get overlooked when it comes to our crafty endeavors, as it is often harder to find cute and unique stuff to make for them.  So we hope that our blogs will provide an excellent resource for finding ideas when it comes to making things for our boys.” – Quote taken from Made by Rae’s blog

Its a well known fact that it’s easier to find things to make for girls than for boys, because girls can wear anything from pants, to tops and dresses where as boys are well limited to pants and tops unless you live in the Middle East where they wear long robes LOL which is the traditional garment called dishdasha.

Anyway back to the topic at hand Rae and Dana shared great tutorials, had guest bloggers on boys projects which i enjoyed. As we are at the end of  feb i wanted to highlight some of the turorials because they are a great reference for boys projects and i am sure made millions of mums happy!

So let get started..shall we?

Rae shows you  how to turn a boy’s shirt from a men’s shirt

and also shows you how to make western pockets

Dana featured this drawstring bag made from khaki pants by Anna from Noodlehead

These cute boy pants tutorial by Ikat were featured by made by rae

Dana from Made  featured this tie shirt tutorial from Saltwater

These are only some of the great tutorials featured on thier blogs

For more great tutorials check them out at

&

A big thank you to Dana and Rae for celebrating the boy although i have no boys its still fun to make stuff for them.

Fat Quarter Sewing Tutorials

I have read lots of sewing blogs and sites and have always come across the term fat quarter and there are tons of tutorials made with fat quaters.

What is a fat qurater you may ask?

A fat quarter is a one-fourth yard cut of fabric that (usually) measures 18″ x 22″ instead of the typical 9″ x 44″ quarter-yard cut. The longest side’s dimension will vary if your fabric is not 44″ wide.

Why would i want a fat quarter?

Look at the illustration

and you’ll see that a fat quarter gives you the opportunity to cut larger chunks of fabric than would be possible from a regular quarter-yard, including strips that are twice as long on the fabric’s (less stretchy) lengthwise grain.

A fat quarter offers more versatility, whether it’s for patchwork or appliqué. Quilt shops know that fat quarters are popular, and usually offer a wide assortment of them, pre-cut and ready to go.

You can use fat quarters for strip piecing by making extra strip sets from shorter lengths of fabric until you’ve cut the number of segments required for the pattern.

This information was extracted from Quilting at about.com

Now that we got that covered lets get to the things you can make with fat quaters
